The arrester is used to prevent the overvoltage wave generated by lightning from immersing in the substation and distribution station or other buildings along the line, so as not to endanger the insulation of the protected electrical equipment. The arrester should be connected in parallel with the protection equipment and installed on the power supply side of the protected equipment. When the lightning overvoltage that endangers the insulation of the equipment occurs on the line, the spark gap of the arrester is broken down, or the high resistance is changed to the ground resistance, so that the overvoltage is discharged to the bottom, thus protecting the insulation of the equipment.
